There are several ways to help reduce the appearance of acne scarring. You can try many different remedies, natural and otherwise. Their effectiveness does vary - so it's important to try a few different things. But I'm not going to muck around with introductions, I'm just going to jump straight in! Here are four great ways to reduce acne scars:
Rosehip Oil
This is an essential oil that comes from South America. It's been used to treat a large number of skin complaints, from scarring to wrinkles and more. It's one of the 'lesser known' essential oils, but one that is becoming more and more popular within the skin care industry. You don't need to purchase any special product with Rosehip oil added, you can just get the oil and go from there. The oil contains a large quantity of Vitamin A which helps to the elasticity of the skin and smoothes it. Dry skin is also helped by applying the oil. While it's not a hugely common essential oil, it certainly is worth looking out for, as it's a great treatment for acne scarred skin.
Lemon Juice
This is a popular one. Lemon juice is best used on the skin as a bleach. If you have especially red or coloured scarring, lemon juice can help to fade and return the normal colour to your skin. It's an acid, and quite a strong one at that - and remember that just because it's natural doesn't mean your skin will tolerate it. Always do a spot test with lemon juice before using it, and dilute it with a little water if you find that your skin requires a weaker dose.
Green Tea
Green tea is also quite effective at treating raw acne. So if you've got some of that, give it a try! Some people recommend that you drink a lot of green tea, while others recommend that you apply the tea bags to the scars directly. I say - do both! Green tea is extremely high in anti-oxidants which help to fight free radicals (they make mischief in your body). Try and drink two or three cups a day for the maximum impact. If you want, you can turn it into a ritual as well - try and drink it as a form of meditation. While this won't directly help your skin, it will help to reduce your stress levels, and that's always a good thing!
Baking Soda
Baking soda is typically used as a facial scrub. By blending a couple of teaspoons of the soda with a drop of water you can form a paste which can dramatically help to exfoliate your skin. It improves the texture of your skin, helps elasticity, and helps to improve future skin growth. Try and do the baking soda scrub once every couple of days.
Those are four ways to reduce acne scars. They will take time to work. That's just a given. But with patience, time and effort, you will be able to make an impact with your scarring.
